Your resume is a very important document, it is not only a piece of paper or an email attachment that details your personal information but it is also the first impression that you give to your potential employer. The obvious information that you will need to include in your resume is of course your education background as well as prior working experience. As a member of the medical community it is important that you keep yourself updated, this will not only help you become a better physical therapist but employers will also be more than happy to hire capable employee who knows what they are doing.
Other information which you can include in your resume includes success stories of your past patients. This does not mean indulge in detail regarding your patient’s medical history but give a short summary of what type of situation you have faced before and what type of procedure you used to help the patients and so on.
Besides the medical know-how, you should also include other sorts of information that will land you that job.
You have to highlight qualities that you are able to bring to the table and that will beat the competition, for example if you are applying for a job in an area with a majority of a particular race and you are able to speak their language then make sure you highlight that quality or if you are willing to work night shifts. Don’t just fall into the trap of going on and on about your achievements and qualifications, employers want to see what you really can do.
Once you have completed writing your resume proofread it to make sure that you have put in accurate information about yourself as well as checking for grammatical errors. Never try to embellish your resume in hopes of landing that job especially if you are unable to support what you have included in your resume. Not only is this dishonest but in such an environment you will only be effectively ending your career even before it started.
